God Moments

As April ends, I want to share a God moment I had during Holy Week with all of you. All during Holy Week, people from the church had been frantically planning and prepping to make sure everything went perfect on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter. We had some awesome events and everyone was excited about them, we just had to make sure all the work was done beforehand!

One of the most impressive events we prepared for was our 24-hour prayer vigil. I know what you are thinking…talk about a boring experience, but it was not! We had over 25 people who came out and prayed for at least one hour and each person left saying, “That was really neat.” So if you missed out, do not worry! There will be another one about 350 days from now (give or take a few days). So, put in on your calendar! Anyway, my God moment happened during my hour of prayer in the sanctuary.

It had been a hectic day. I was up at 4:00am on that Saturday before Easter to come and unlock the building for the early risers who were coming out to pray. Once I got into the church I prepared a few things for the stations and then waited around working on my Easter sermon till 8:00am when I left for a baptism class at the Fort Worth Nature Center. I got to spend the whole morning with two girls and their mentors as they learned about Jesus and what baptism means. As we finished the hike, I packed up, got some lunch, headed to the sanctuary for my time of prayer.

I walked through the double doors into the sanctuary feeling rushed from all the activities that were happening during the last 72 hours. I knew what to expect considering I was one of the ones who helped develop all of the stations and get them set up. But, as I walked around all the stations and interacted with each of them, there was one that stopped me right in my tracks.

We had set up a table for the girls who were going to be baptized on Easter and had a card that we asked people to write in. I figured that each person would write a word or two and then move on. However, when I opened up the first card, my heart dropped. I was looking forward to writing a message to the girls and as I looked at the card, there was no space! It will filled with words of encouragement and hope from members of the congregation for those who were being baptized.

I was so overwhelmed by the love of God that flowed through the words written on the card. For about ten minutes, I just sat there soaking it all in. As I read each note, tears began to roll down my face. There are no words that could express the joy I felt that afternoon. It is in moments like those that I am reminded of what an awesome God we serve and I am so grateful to be serving him alongside you.

My heart is filled and my cup overflows all because of what you are doing. All because you are sharing the love of God. All because you are showing up and sharing your life with others. It might not seem like much, but you are making a difference in peoples lives…I think my example is one of the many God moments people experience when they encounter you and this church. This is what church is all about. It is about showing up…experiencing God’s love…and sharing that love with all.

So thank you…because you do not get enough credit for showing up. Thank you for all that you are doing here in this church because it is not said enough and you deserve a big thank you. Keep showing up, keep experiencing God’s love, and keep sharing God’s love with all.

So, that was my God moment. What are your God moments? Keep a look out for them…they are pretty awesome.

2 We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers. 3 We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
